Actor, executive, personal brand — different jobs
An actor's headshot must look like the person who walks into the casting room on a normal day — castable, specific, honest. An executive portrait carries authority and approachability in equal measure. A personal-brand shoot needs polish that survives being blown up on a website hero. Each brief gets a different hand: different coverage weight, different definition, different philosophy about "perfecting."
Natural definition, not visible makeup
The most common headshot-makeup failure is doing too much: heavy base that erases skin texture, contour that reads as stripes at portrait distance, lashes that cast shadows under a beauty dish. The work here is subtractive — even the skin, open the eyes, define what the lens softens, and stop.
Mature skin and high resolution
Modern cameras are brutal at 60 megapixels. On mature skin, powder in the wrong place ages a face ten years and cream in the wrong place broadcasts shine. There's a specific product logic for high-resolution capture on real, lived-in skin — one that lets retouching finish the job lightly instead of rebuilding the face.
On-set fluency
Because the photographer's problems are familiar territory, changes happen fast: adjust for a shift from strobe to window light, correct a hotspot the camera sees before the eye does, tune for the crop. Photographers, this makes your day shorter; subjects, it makes your gallery better.
